Rattle snake down by the lake,
Sound and size, subtle alarm,
Turning and seizing your prey,
Venomous, venomous,

Venom that runs through the veins,
Painfully, I’m unaware,
Flaring with a silent swell,
Darker, it’s darker,

It’s darker than it’s supposed to be,
And here I was dreaming of it all to go so swimmingly,
I’ve made a fool of me,
One little bite and I’m crumpled trembling on my knees,
The badlands have conquered me,
The darkness covers me,

Silver white, the icy path,
Half a step, then there’s a crack,
Backwards would be hopeless too,
