Six

Last week, we celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary. While this might make us still marriage-babies in comparison to some couples we know, I think that six years is pretty good going. And it keeps getting better!

I believe in marriage. It’s one of the things that I truly am passionate about. Strong, healthy marriages lead to loved, joyful families, birthing a new generation of blessed and ‘bless-ful’ people. A relationship where two people can be completely vulnerable and honest, give and take, be built and build; it’s freeing, humbling, and beautiful to behold. My marriage is not perfect... and we don’t have kids yet, which I know will throw some spanners in the works... But I write a lot about marriage, since I know my life would never have gone in this direction if not for my life-long-love.

Some of those lyrics:

“Now I realise that it’s not about where we end,
It’s about the binding of ourselves that happens en route to that end,
Letting someone steer for you, always giving, not expecting.
Going faster and further than otherwise we would...”

(Tandem, 2012)

“Never will I grow used to you, old friend,
Your weather, your clouds, their patterns, how they tend,
But oh, how lovely, how familiar you are,
Like leather worn into me, you fit so perfectly.
I wear you proudly.”
(The Travellers Two, 2013)

“I love it when we fight together for the same cause,
Winning wars, bringing light to what’s right,
I love it when we climb together to a new height,
Breathing in the sights we see.”

(Sail On, 2014)
